They come from different schools and win in their first overseas contest
A mixed team of 6 students from various primary schools represented Singapore to compete in the 7th World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) held in Seoul, South Korea from November 24 to 26, 2016. They competed in the Individual contest as well as the team contest.
WMTC as a group competition has been gathering some of the best students of mathematics from all around the world for the past seven years. Unlike other math tournaments that focus on the competition among the students, WMTC places high value on cooperation and team synergy. Such qualities are much relevant to the modern academia where teamwork and cooperation are considered more seriously than individual performance.
This year’s WMTC is especially meaningful. The past six events of the championship had been held in Beijing, China, but this year the 7th WMTC has expanded its realm and was held in Seoul. The number of participating countries has also significantly increased, so today over 600 participants from 20 different countries gathered here for this international event.
The Singapore Junior Team won the Gold Team award as well as the first prize for the Individual Scholarship. These 6 students are:
