WHAT WE ARE
International Scholastic Trust Ltd (IST previously known as Singapore Scholarlistic Trust SST) is a not for profit foundation that supports international academic and cultural competitions. With donations from revenue generated from these contests, IST awards scholarships and mentorship programs for students and teachers to transform lives.
Knowledge building pedagogies recognize the value of established knowledge, but also insist that students need to be able to do knowledge work as well as learning about established knowledge. Above all, this means students should acquire the ability to recognize, generate, represent, communicate, deliberate, interrogate, validate and apply knowledge claims in light of established norms in key subject domains.
Using these knowledge building pedagogies and Singapore’s expertise in education, IST supports and mentors teachers and students to increase confidence, enjoyment, and performance through international academic and cultural competitions.
IST pioneered the development of Singapore’s international competitions using collaborative and cooperative teamwork with members from different countries through the launch of Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC). SIMOC received over 1300 participants from grades 2 to 11, making it one of the fastest growing international contests in the world. In 2017, IST partnered with the Cambodian Mathematics Society and the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to organize the first International Junior Mathematics Olympiad (IJMO). In 2018, IJMO was held in Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand with over 900 participants. In 2019, IJMO will be held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia from July 26 to 30, 2019.
IST also shared the success of Singapore Math with other countries by partnering with Singapore Math Ambassadors, Prof Yeap Ban Har and Prof Joseph Yeo Boon Wooi to conduct the inaugural Singapore Math Global Team Competition (SINGA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from November 16 to 20, 2018.
